Research status and progress of power management in portable equipment

  • The development of portable equipment power management chip, which is based on low dropout regulator(LDO) and switching DC-DC converter, is analyzed and summarized. Focusing on the requirements of high efficiency, high power density, fast transient characteristics and high power supply rejection, the topology and optimization design methods of the power management systems for portable equipment are analyzed from the perspectives of loop control, power supply rejection ratio enhancement, dynamic lifting module and full integration. In terms of the new architecture, firstly, the research progress of hybrid LDO and hybrid architecture switching power supply and the development trend of new hybrid architecture are discussed respectively. Secondly, for the full integration and cooperative design of power management system, the stacked voltage domain power management architecture is analyzed, which provides a new field for the design of system-level power management and a new idea and method for the cross regulation and dynamic characteristic improvement of multi-output structure. Finally, the application of Chiplet technology in the power management system is discussed, and the frontier research progress and future trend are analyzed from the aspects of power system structure and passive component integration. The power management in portable equipment has developed into a system-level solution. New application requirements, new architectures and new integration technologies will stimulate more challenges and design highlights.
